Cetti Bay Overlook: A Window to Guam's Ancient Past

Cetti Bay Overlook is a breathtaking gem on Guam's southern coast, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the island's rugged terrain. As part of Guam's Territorial Seashore Park, the overlook provides a window into the island's volcanic past and rich Chamorro heritage.From the overlook, visitors can see the chain of a thousand foothills and the unique pillow lava formations of Attelong Acho, or Black Rock. To the south, Cocos Island is visible off the coast of Malesso'/Merizo village. The coastal area around Cetti Bay has been inhabited by Chamorros for approximately 3,000 years, with latte stones and pottery shards providing evidence of their presence. The Spanish later created a road system that followed the coastline from Hagatna, south through Cetti Bay to Umatac.The overlook is easily accessible and offers several hiking trails for all fitness levels. The trails wind through lush vegetation, providing opportunities to spot local wildlife and unique flora. The panoramic vistas are particularly spectacular during sunrise and sunset, when the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors.Cetti Bay itself is a historic site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area contains remnants of the ancient Chamorro village of Jati, as well as traces of Spanish-era ceramics. Although reaching the bay by foot requires a challenging hike, it's a rewarding experience for adventurous travelers.
