Getting There

  • Public Bus

    From the center of Quetzaltenango, head to the main bus terminal (Terminal Minerva). Look for buses heading towards San Martín Sacatepéquez. The fare is usually around Q5. Once on the bus, inform the driver that you want to get off at the stop for 'Laguna de Chicabal'. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes. After you get off, you will need to walk towards the entrance of the trail leading to the mirador.

  • Tuk-tuk

    If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a tuk-tuk from Quetzaltenango. Head to a tuk-tuk stand in the city center and negotiate a price (around Q50-70) for a ride to the Laguna de Chicabal entrance. The ride will take approximately 25-30 minutes. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of the trail.

    For the more adventurous, you can walk to the Laguna de Chicabal. Starting from Parque Central in Quetzaltenango, head south towards Avenida Las Américas. Once you reach the road, you can either continue walking towards the Laguna or catch a public bus or tuk-tuk from the main road to the entrance. The total walking distance is about 12 kilometers, taking roughly 3-4 hours.
