To reach Thórsmörk from Fimmvörðuháls Pass by car, head south on Route 221. Continue on this road until you reach the junction with Route 1 (the Ring Road). Take a left onto Route 1 and drive approximately 30 km until you reach the junction for Route 249. Turn right onto Route 249, which is a gravel road leading into Thórsmörk. Note that the road may require a 4x4 vehicle due to river crossings and rough terrain. After about 20 km on Route 249, you'll arrive at Thórsmörk, where you can park at designated areas.
Public Transportation
If you're traveling by public transportation, start by taking a bus from Reykjavík to Hvolsvöllur. From Hvolsvöllur, you can find a bus service that operates to Thórsmörk, typically operated by companies like Reykjavik Excursions or Sterna. The bus ride from Hvolsvöllur to Thórsmörk usually takes about 1.5 hours. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary by season. Additionally, the cost of the bus from Hvolsvöllur to Thórsmörk can range from 3,000 to 4,000 ISK (Icelandic Krona).
Hiking

Begin your hike at the Fimmvörðuháls parking area and follow the marked trails that lead directly to Thórsmörk. The hike is approximately 15 km and takes about 6-7 hours, depending on your fitness level. Be sure to bring necessary hiking gear, food, and water, as there are no facilities along the way.
