Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the Skaftafell Visitor Center. Head southeast on Route 1 (the Ring Road) towards Jökulsárlón. Continue on Route 1 for approximately 52 kilometers (about 32 miles). You will see signs for Jökulsárlón on your right. There is a parking area where you can leave your car. The Glacier Trips office is located near the lagoon, just a short walk from the parking area.

  • Public Transportation

    For public transport, take the bus from the Skaftafell bus stop. Check the current schedule for the bus service to Jökulsárlón, as it may vary by season. The bus journey will take about 1 hour. You will arrive at the Jökulsárlón bus stop, which is close to the Glacier Trips location. From the bus stop, walk towards the lagoon, and you will find the Glacier Trips office nearby. Be sure to check the bus return schedule to plan your trip accordingly.

  • Walking

    If you prefer to walk and have the time, starting from the Skaftafell Visitor Center, you can hike towards Jökulsárlón. This is a longer trek, approximately 10 kilometers (about 6.2 miles) and will take around 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Follow the marked trails that lead you towards the glacier and lagoon area. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and carry enough water and snacks.
