Car
From the main entrance of Skaftafell National Park, head east on Route 1 (Þjóðvegur) for approximately 20 kilometers. Look for signs directing you to Breiðamerkursandur. The parking area is located just off the main road. Please note that parking may require a small fee, approximately 1,000 ISK.

Public Transportation
Take the bus from the Skaftafell Visitor Center to the nearest stop to Breiðamerkursandur. The bus service operates regularly, and you can check the schedule online. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the bus stop, walk approximately 1 kilometer east along Route 1 (Þjóðvegur) to reach Breiðamerkursandur. Be sure to check the local bus schedule for return times.

If you are already in Skaftafell and prefer to walk, the distance to Breiðamerkursandur is about 6 kilometers. Follow the marked hiking paths that lead east towards the glacier lagoon, allowing for stunning views along the way. It may take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete this walk, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for changing weather conditions.
