Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the town of Hella, which is located on Route 1 (the Ring Road). From Hella, take Route 26 heading northeast towards Þjórsárdalur Valley. Continue on Route 26 for about 25 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route 32. Turn left onto Route 32 and continue for approximately 12 kilometers. Look for the signs directing you towards Landmannahellir, and follow the gravel road for around 15 kilometers until you reach the campground. Note that a 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to the gravel road conditions.

Public Transportation and Hiking
For those relying on public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjavik to Hella. Buses are available through companies like Strætó and Sterna. Once you arrive in Hella, you may need to arrange for a taxi or shuttle service to take you to the Landmannahellir area, as there is no direct public transport to the campground. Be sure to check the local taxi services in Hella. From the drop-off point, expect to hike approximately 3-5 kilometers on well-marked trails to reach Landmannahellir.
