Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, make your way to Route 1 (the Ring Road) and head towards the town of Selfoss. Once in Selfoss, take the turn onto Route 32, which will lead you to the Þingvellir National Park area. Continue on Route 32 until you reach Route 26, then follow Route 26 north until you reach the junction with Route 1. From there, take Route 1 and follow it until you reach the Sprengisandsleið road (F26) which leads into the Highlands. Follow F26 north until you see signs for Nyidalur FI Mountain Hut. Be aware that F26 is a highland road that requires a 4x4 vehicle due to rough terrain. There may be a toll or fee for using certain highland roads, so prepare for that.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjavík to Þingvellir or Selfoss. From there, you'll need to arrange a taxi or a shuttle service to take you to the Sprengisandsleið (F26) road. Note that public transport options are limited, and you may need to check with local agencies for services that can drop you off at the start of the highland roads. Once on Sprengisandsleið, be prepared for a rough ride, as it's not paved and can be challenging to navigate. Ensure to check the schedules ahead of time as services may not run frequently.

• Hiking

  If you're feeling adventurous and are already in the vicinity of other hiking trails, you can hike to Nyidalur FI Mountain Hut from surrounding areas. Make sure to have a map or GPS device, as trails in the Highlands can be less defined. The hike can take several hours depending on your starting point, so plan accordingly. Always check weather conditions and ensure you have the necessary gear for a safe hike.
