Discover more about Kinmundy Log Cabin Village

Kinmundy Log Cabin Village offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the lives of 19th-century pioneers in Illinois. Founded in the late 1950s by Erma Ingram, the village was her vision to preserve the rapidly vanishing log structures of the 1800s. She began acquiring cabins from the surrounding area, including some from the Omega area during the construction of Stephen A. Forbes State Park. With the help of her son Robert and his friends, Ingram dismantled and relocated fifteen cabins to a 40-acre wooded area on the north side of Kinmundy. These cabins, dating from the early to mid-1800s, were meticulously furnished with authentic artifacts to provide visitors with an immersive look into the rough and simple lives of the pioneers. The village opened to the public in the mid-1970s and has continued to operate, thanks to the efforts of the Kinmundy Historical Society and Kinmundy Promotions, Inc. Visitors can explore a variety of cabins, each with its own unique history and purpose. Cabins represent homes, businesses, and community spaces of the era. Some notable cabins include the Anderson Cabin, a former cobbler's shop, and the Jacob's Well Stagecoach Inn, which once hosted famous figures like Abe Lincoln and Jesse James. The village also hosts an annual Fall Craft Show, continuing a tradition that began with its opening.
