    If arriving by car from Chicago, take the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) to the US-20/Marengo exit. Head northwesterly on Route 20 for about 4.5 miles to Union Road. Then, follow Union Road to Olson Road, where you'll find the museum. Parking is available on-site.

    The Illinois Railway Museum is accessible via public transit using McHenry County's Dial-A-Ride program (MCRide). This service provides transportation between the Metra stations in Woodstock and Crystal Lake and the museum in Union. Visitors need to arrange in advance for MCRide to pick them up at a specific time by calling 1-800-451-4599. A one-way ride costs $3 for the general public, $1.50 for seniors (60+) and individuals with disabilities. MCRide operates seven days a week, except on major holidays.
