From Chain O'Lakes State Park, head south on IL-173 W toward IL-12. Continue on IL-173 W for about 5 miles until you reach IL-120 W. Turn left onto IL-120 W and follow it for approximately 8 miles. When you reach the intersection with S River Rd, turn right. Moraine Hills State Park will be on your right at 1510 S River Rd, McHenry, IL 60051. The total driving distance is about 14 miles and should take around 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic.

To reach Moraine Hills State Park via public transportation, start by taking a taxi or rideshare service from Chain O'Lakes State Park to the nearest Metra train station, which is in Fox Lake. From there, take the Metra train on the Milwaukee District North Line toward Chicago Union Station. Transfer at the McHenry station. Once you arrive in McHenry, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare service to Moraine Hills State Park, which is approximately 3 miles away from the station. Be aware that public transportation schedules vary, so check the Metra website for the latest train times. Fares may vary for each segment of the trip.
