Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Gangtok, head towards MG Marg, the main market area. Walk towards the end of MG Marg and look for the signs pointing towards the Rumtek Monastery. You will need to walk to the Sikkim National Gallery and continue until you reach the taxi stand at Deorali. From Deorali, you can take a shared taxi to Rumtek. The walk will take approximately 20-30 minutes.

    At the Deorali taxi stand, look for shared taxis heading to Rumtek Monastery. The drivers usually wait until the taxi is full before leaving, so be prepared for a short wait. The ride will take about 30-40 minutes. Inform the driver you are going to Old Rumtek Monastery, and they will drop you off at the entrance.
