Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car within Indiana Dunes National Park, start at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center. Head east on U.S. Route 12 and continue for about 2 miles. Turn right onto IN-49 North. After approximately 1.5 miles, turn right onto 1000 N. Continue for about 0.3 miles, and you will see the entrance to the Indiana Dunes State Park on your left. Once you enter the park, follow the signs to the Bird Observatory, which is located near the southern end of the park.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach the Indiana Dunes State Park Bird Observatory using public transportation, take the South Shore Line train from Chicago to the Dune Park station. From the station, you can either walk or take a rideshare service to the Indiana Dunes State Park (about 1.5 miles away). Once at the park entrance, follow the signs to the Bird Observatory located at the southern end of the park.
