Getting There

  • Car

    If you are already in Indiana Dunes National Park, the easiest way to reach Indiana Dunes State Park is by car. Start by making your way to the entrance of the park on Indiana 49. From there, head east on U.S. Route 20. Continue on U.S. Route 20 for about 5 miles until you reach the intersection with Indiana 49. Turn north onto Indiana 49 and continue for approximately 1 mile. Then, turn east onto 25 E (this is also known as North County Line Road) and continue for about 1 mile until you arrive at 1600 N 25 E, Chesterton, IN 46304. The entrance to the state park will be on your right. Parking may require a fee, so please check the latest information regarding parking costs.

    If you're using public transportation, start by taking the South Shore Line train from Chicago or nearby towns towards South Bend. Disembark at the Dune Park Station. From Dune Park, you can catch a local bus (Route 10) that services the area and goes towards Chesterton. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance. After approximately a 20-minute bus ride, get off at the stop closest to the park entrance on 25 E. From there, it is a short walk (about 0.5 miles) to the entrance of Indiana Dunes State Park at 1600 N 25 E, Chesterton, IN 46304. Be aware that public transport may require multiple transfers and waiting times, so plan accordingly.
