Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving within Indiana Dunes National Park, head towards the northern part of the park. From the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, take Highway 49 north for approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto US-20 E and follow it for about 0.7 miles. Then, turn left onto Unnamed Road (the entrance to Dunes Prairie Nature Preserve). The preserve will be on your left. Parking is available along the road.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Dunes Prairie Nature Preserve via public transportation, first take the South Shore Line train from Chicago to the Portage/Ogden Dunes station. From there, you can either walk or use rideshare services. The nature preserve is approximately 1.5 miles from the train station. Follow the signs towards US-20 E, and then turn onto Unnamed Road, heading south until you reach the preserve. Note that you may need to arrange for rideshare services for the last leg of your journey, as public transportation options may be limited.
