History of Southeast Papua

The history of Southeast Papua begins with the Austronesian migration that occurred around 3000 BCE. These seafaring people from Taiwan and the Philippines settled in various parts of Southeast Asia, including Papua. Their arrival marked the beginning of complex societies in the region, characterized by the development of agriculture, pottery, and sophisticated maritime technology.
During the 14th and 15th centuries, the Kingdoms of Ternate and Tidore, located in the Maluku Islands, began to exert influence over parts of Southeast Papua.
