Ur, also known as Tell el-Muqayyar, was a major Sumerian city-state in ancient Mesopotamia, situated in present-day Dhi Qar Governorate, southern Iraq. Founded around 3800 BC, Ur is one of the oldest cities in Mesopotamia.
