Seeb water spring, Karbala Travel Guide

The Seeb Water Spring, situated in the Karbala Governorate, holds both historical and religious importance. Located in the Al Qadisyia borough of Karbala, this spring is one of the five famous natural springs in the Ain al-Tamr area. These springs are an integral part of the region's heritage. According to historical accounts, Imam Ali, a revered figure, discovered the spring while preparing for the Battle of Siffeen in 37 A.H.. Local lore recounts that Imam Ali and his companions were in need of water when they came across a Christian priest who told them there was no water in the area. Imam Ali then instructed his companions to dig in a specific location, where they found a boulder they couldn't move. Imam Ali then lifted the boulder, revealing a spring of pure water. The priest, recognizing the fulfillment of a prophecy, converted to Islam.In recent years, efforts have been made to restore these springs, including Seeb Water Spring, which have been affected by desertification, reduced rainfall, and extensive agricultural expansion. While some restoration attempts have been successful, challenges remain in balancing the preservation of these natural landmarks with the region's agricultural needs.
