Discover more about Palazzo Cucchiari

Palazzo Cucchiari, located in the San Francesco district of Carrara, is a testament to the city's economic and urban expansion in the late 19th century. Completed in 1891 by Leandro Caselli, a student of Alessandro Antonelli, the palace was commissioned by the Cucchiari family, reflecting the housing needs of the rising bourgeois class. Caselli, who also designed other notable Carrara buildings, blended simple, clear lines with the fashionable linearity of the time. The palace's exterior features two large marble balconies and a projecting cornice supported by decorated panels. Inside, visitors can admire frescoes and mosaics that have been carefully restored. The palace boasts five floors with 36 rooms, covering 2,000 square meters. The interior showcases the work of Italian and European artisans, including terrazzo floors by Venetian masters. After belonging to the Cucchiari family until 1930, the building served various public functions, including as the headquarters of the Social Security Institute and a high school. In 2015, after extensive restoration, Palazzo Cucchiari reopened as the home of the Giorgio Conti Foundation, hosting events and exhibitions. The foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting the social and cultural ideas of entrepreneur Giorgio Conti. Today, the Palazzo Cucchiari hosts a variety of events, including concerts and art exhibitions.
