Discover more about Natural Spa of Segesta (Free)

The Natural Spa of Segesta offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the therapeutic embrace of natural hot springs, free of charge. Situated in western Sicily, between the towns of Alcamo and Castellammare del Golfo, these springs, also known as Polle del Crimiso, emerge along the banks of the Crimiso River. The location is near the ancient city of Segesta, adding a layer of historical intrigue to the experience. The thermal waters, gushing from a 50-meter-deep spring, maintain a constant temperature of approximately 47°C. Rich in sulfur, alkaline, and chlorine, these waters have been prized for their healing properties for centuries, believed to alleviate rheumatism, respiratory issues, and skin conditions. According to legend, the springs owe their warmth to the river god Crimiso, who heated the waters to comfort the nymph Egesta as she fled the Trojan War. This mythological connection adds a touch of magic to the already enchanting atmosphere. Visitors can soak in small, naturally formed pools surrounded by reeds, tamarisk trees, and travertine rock formations. For a more secluded experience, venture further into the canyon where smaller, less crowded pools and even a thermal waterfall can be found. While the location is free, access requires a short walk and a stream crossing, so appropriate footwear is recommended. The natural setting and therapeutic waters make the Natural Spa of Segesta a must-visit destination for those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation in Sicily.
