Discover more about Hyogo Prefecture Awaji Hanasajiki

Awaji Hanasajiki, whose name translates to "sightseeing seat covered with flowers," is a prefectural park that opened in April 1998, coinciding with the opening of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Situated on a natural plateau ranging from 235 to 298 meters above sea level, the park boasts gentle slopes that descend toward the sea, offering unobstructed panoramic views. The park's meticulously designed flower fields showcase a diverse array of seasonal flowers, including rape blossoms, poppies, and linaria in spring; sunflowers and blue sage in summer; and cosmos in autumn. The flowers are thoughtfully arranged in stunning patterns and meticulously cultivated to create lovely views. In winter, caretakers employ a unique technique of cutting the grass in intricate patterns, forming captivating pictures on the ground. Visitors can explore the park's charming pathways, relax in designated rest areas, and take in the scenery from strategically placed observation decks. The main building houses visitor center, a café-restaurant, and a local souvenir shop. The café-restaurant "Galleri" serves Scandinavian open-faced sandwiches and offers panoramic views of the flowers and sea. The farmer's market on the first floor sells local produce and souvenirs, including Awaji Island's specialty onions. Awaji Hanasajiki is more than just a flower park; it's a place where nature, art, and culture converge. The park celebrates the ephemeral and everlasting nature of beauty, reflecting the deep connection between Japanese culture and the natural world.
