If you are traveling by car, set your GPS to 13 Ryoanji Goryonoshitacho, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, 616-8001. From central Kyoto, take the Ryoanji Goryonoshitacho exit off of the Kyoto City Loop Road (Route 38). Follow the signs for Ryoanji Temple. There is limited parking available near the temple; parking fees may apply, usually around 500 yen per hour.

If you prefer public transportation, start at Kyoto Station. Take the JR Sanin Line to Ryoanji Station (approximately 30 minutes). From Ryoanji Station, transfer to the Kyoto City Bus #26 towards Ryoanji. Get off at 'Ryoanji-mae' bus stop, which is a short walk from the temple entrance. The bus fare is around 230 yen.
