Train
From Kyoto Station, take the JR Biwako Line (also known as the JR Kosei Line) towards Otsu. The train ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at Sakamoto Station. Once you exit the station, walk straight for about 10 minutes heading towards the lake. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the Former Chikurin-in Temple, which is located at 5 Chome-2-13 Sakamoto.
Bus
From Kyoto Station, head to the bus terminal located outside the station. Take the #206 or #207 bus heading to Otsu. The bus ride will take around 45 minutes. Get off at the Sakamoto stop. From there, it’s a short 5-minute walk to the Former Chikurin-in Temple. Follow the road towards the lake and look for signs directing you to the temple.
Taxi
If you're looking for a more direct option, you can take a taxi from Kyoto. Simply tell the driver you want to go to 'Chikurin-in Temple in Sakamoto, Otsu'. The ride will take about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. This option may be more convenient if you're traveling in a group.
Walk
If you're already in the Sakamoto area, you can walk to the Former Chikurin-in Temple from various local landmarks. From Sakamoto Station, head straight down the main road towards Lake Biwa, keeping the lake on your right. After about a 10-minute walk, you’ll find the entrance to the temple on your left at 5 Chome-2-13 Sakamoto.
