Car
If you're traveling by car, start by getting onto the Shimanami Expressway (also known as the Shimanami Kaido) if you're in the eastern parts of Shikoku. Head towards Onomichi in Hiroshima, and take the exit towards Yamaguchi Prefecture. Once on Route 2, continue driving until you reach Yanai. Follow signs to Heigun Island, which is located near the coastline. Once you reach the city of Yanai, look for local signage directing you to the ferry terminal. Parking is available at the terminal, but be aware of any fees, which typically range from 500 to 1000 yen per day.
Public Transportation - Train
To reach Heigun Island via public transport, take a train from any major city in Shikoku (like Takamatsu or Matsuyama) to Shin-Yamaguchi Station. From Shin-Yamaguchi Station, transfer to the JR Yamaguchi Line towards Yamaguchi City and get off at Yanai Station. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive at Yanai Station, you can either take a local bus or taxi (approximately 10-15 minutes) to reach the ferry terminal that services Heigun Island. Be prepared for bus fares around 200-500 yen.
