Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Almaty city center and head southeast on Al-Farabi Avenue. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with the Medeu Road. Turn left onto Medeu Road and follow it for about 15 kilometers. You will reach the Medeu skating rink, a popular landmark. From there, continue up the road towards the mountains. The road will eventually lead you to the entrance of Ile-Alatau National Park. After entering the park, follow the signs towards Gorge Gorel'nik. You may need to pay an entrance fee (approximately 1,000 KZT) for the park. Once you reach the marked area for Gorge Gorel'nik, park your vehicle and prepare for a short hike to the gorge.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take the bus number 12 or 20 from Almaty city center towards Medeu. The bus ride will take around 30-40 minutes. Get off at the Medeu stop, which is near the skating rink. From there, you can catch a taxi or a shared minibus (marshrutka) that goes to the entrance of Ile-Alatau National Park. The fare for the taxi may range from 500 to 1,000 KZT. Once you reach the park entrance, there will be an entrance fee (approximately 1,000 KZT). After entering the park, follow the signs to Gorge Gorel'nik, where you will embark on a short hike to reach the gorge.
Hiking
If you are already within Ile-Alatau National Park and wish to hike to Gorge Gorel'nik, start from the Medeu area. Follow the marked hiking trails leading towards the gorge. The trail is moderately challenging and will take approximately 1-1.5 hours to reach the gorge. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring enough water for the journey.
