Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, start from Almaty city center and head southeast on Al-Farabi Avenue. Continue onto the A2 highway towards the mountains. Follow the signs for Ile-Alatau National Park. Once you enter the park, follow the main road until you reach the entrance of the park at the Medeu skating rink. You may need to pay an entrance fee, which is around 1,500 KZT for adults. After entering the park, continue driving towards the Chimbulak ski resort. From Chimbulak, follow the road leading up to the base of Pik Talgar, keeping an eye out for signs directing you to hiking trails. Park your vehicle at the designated parking area near the base and prepare for a hike.

    To reach Pik Talgar using public transportation, take a bus or minibus (marshrutka) from Almaty to Medeu. Look for buses leaving from the Almaty bus station or major bus stops in the city center.
