History of Shymkent

Shymkent, one of Kazakhstan's oldest cities, was founded in the 12th century as a caravanserai, a roadside inn where travelers could rest and recover from the day's journey along the Silk Road. It soon developed into a bustling market town, becoming a key trading hub in the region.
