Once you reach Chebonet, look for the coordinates 8CM6+XMV on your GPS or map application. The Kapkwai Exploration Center is situated at these coordinates, approximately 15 km from the park entrance. It is advisable to use a 4x4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season, as some roads may become difficult to navigate.

  • Public Transportation

    Using public transportation from within Mount Elgon National Park is possible but may require some planning. The nearest town with public transport options is Mbale. From Mbale, you can catch a matatu (shared taxi) towards Chebonet. Inform the driver that you are headed to Kapkwai Exploration Center, as they will have local knowledge of the area.
