Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major town, which is Nyeri. From Nyeri, take the Nyeri-Nairobi Highway (A2) heading north. After approximately 23 km, turn onto the Nyeri-Karatina Road (B4) and continue for about 8 km until you reach the junction leading to the Gura Falls area. Follow signs towards Gura Falls and proceed for about 10 km on the dirt road. Be prepared for uneven terrain, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. The final destination is at the coordinates: Latitude -0.5362355, Longitude 36.7188899.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, start from Nyeri town. Board a matatu (shared taxi) heading towards Karatina. Upon reaching Karatina, switch to another matatu that goes to Gura Falls or ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest point. Be sure to confirm with the driver to take you as close to Gura Falls as possible. Expect to walk approximately 3 km to the falls from the drop-off point, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a short hike. The total fare for the matatus should be around Ksh 250-350.
Hiking/Walking
If you prefer to hike, you can plan an overnight camping trip to Gura Falls. Start your hike from the nearest town (Karatina) and follow local trails. Ensure you have a guide familiar with the area, as the paths can be tricky to navigate. It's advisable to carry enough supplies for your journey, including food, water, and camping gear, as there are no facilities near the falls. The trek is approximately 15 km, and it may take around 4-5 hours depending on your pace.
