Getting There

Tuk-tuk

From Luang Prabang city center, tuk-tuks are readily available. Negotiate the fare before you start your journey. A one-way trip to The Living Land Company should cost approximately 20,000-30,000 LAK. The journey takes around 15-20 minutes. Ask the driver to take you to The Living Land Company on the road to Kuang Si Waterfall; it's about 5 km outside town. Some tuk-tuk drivers may offer a round trip including wait time ; negotiate this in advance. Alternatively, The Living Land Company can arrange a tuk-tuk pick up for you.
Bicycle/Motorbike

Renting a bicycle or motorbike is a popular way to explore Luang Prabang and its surroundings. You can rent a bicycle for approximately 10,000 LAK per day. Motorbike rentals cost around 150,000-180,000 LAK per day. From the city center, head south on the Kuang Si Waterfall road (Route 13). The Living Land Company is located about 5 km outside of Luang Prabang. Look for the sign and turn onto the dirt road; the farm is about 1 km down this road. Parking is available on-site.

The Living Land Company is a community-run organic farm providing fresh vegetables, herbs, salads, and rice to hotels and restaurants in Luang Prabang. More than just a farm, it's an educational experience where visitors can discover the intricacies of traditional Lao rice farming methods. Located about 5 km outside of Luang Prabang on the way to the Kuang Si Waterfall, the farm spans over 20,000 hectares and cultivates a variety of crops. The farm aims to offer an alternative to slash-and-burn farming methods, promoting sustainable agriculture. Visitors can participate in hands-on activities, learning about ancient rice harvesting and planting methods, as well as threshing and winnowing rice. You might even get a chance to plough with a water buffalo ! The experience provides a unique insight into the daily life of local farmers and the importance of rice cultivation in Lao culture. Beyond the rice farming experience, The Living Land Company supports a wide range of community projects, from helping with village improvements to running English language classes for local children. The farm also features a Lao-style house overlooking rice terraces and organic vegetable fields, offering a picturesque setting to learn and appreciate the beauty of rural Laos. You can also combine your visit with a cooking lesson, learning how to make traditional Lao dishes using fresh, organic ingredients from the farm.
