Discover more about Alpschaukäserei Schwägalp

The Alpschaukäserei Schwägalp, located at the base of the majestic Säntis mountain, provides an immersive experience into the world of traditional Swiss cheesemaking. Established in 1996 by a cooperative of local farmers, the dairy has been crafting cheese with passion and meticulous attention to detail. Visitors can witness the cheesemaking process firsthand, observing the cheesemakers as they work with fresh alpine milk in large copper vats. The dairy produces the renowned Schwägalp cheese, known for its balanced aroma and unique character, as well as other specialties like Raclette, Mutschli, butter, and goat cheese. The fresh alpine milk comes from over 50 local alpine farming families from May to September. The cheese derives its unique taste from the diverse herbs and grasses that grow in the healthy, clear air around the Säntis massif. The on-site shop offers a variety of fresh dairy products directly from the production, allowing visitors to sample and purchase the flavors of the region. Guided tours are available, providing insights into the cheesemaking techniques, alpine farming, and Appenzell cheese culture.
