Getting There

  • Ferry

    From Velana International Airport, the most common way to reach Malé is by ferry. After exiting the airport, follow the signs for 'Ferry to Malé'. The ticket counter is near the exit. A one-way ticket costs MVR 15 (approximately $1 USD) from 6:00 to midnight and MVR 20 (approximately $1.30 USD) from 5:30 to 6:00. The ferry runs every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night. The journey takes about 10 minutes.

  • Bus

    Alternatively, you can take a bus from the airport to Malé. The bus stop is located outside the airport terminal. Take the R3 bus, which runs to Malé along its southern coast. A single ticket costs MVR 10 (approximately $0.65 USD). The journey takes approximately 25 minutes. Note that buses do not run between approximately 11:30 and 13:00 on Fridays due to a religious break.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available 24/7 outside the airport terminal. A taxi from Velana International Airport to the Malé Ferry Terminal costs MVR 75 (approximately $5 USD). The ride takes about 10 minutes.
