Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car to the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, start by taking US-15 S from your current location. Follow US-15 S until you reach the exit for Point of Rocks. Merge onto MD-28 W and follow the signs for Point of Rocks. Continue on MD-28 W until you reach Canal Rd. Turn right onto Canal Rd, and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal will be on your left at 3701 Canal Rd, Point of Rocks, MD 21777. There is no entrance fee for the park.

  • Public Transportation

    If using public transportation, you can take a MARC Train from Washington, D.C. to the Point of Rocks station. Check the MARC Train schedule for departures. Once you arrive at Point of Rocks station, it's about a 1-mile walk to the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. Exit the station and head northwest on Point of Rocks Rd. Turn left onto MD-28 W and then turn right onto Canal Rd. The park entrance will be on your left at 3701 Canal Rd, Point of Rocks, MD 21777. Be sure to check the latest MARC Train schedules as they may vary.

  • Bicycle

    If you are already within the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park and wish to bike to a specific location, you can utilize the C&O Canal Towpath. The towpath runs parallel to the canal and is accessible for bicycles. Depending on your starting point, follow the signs toward the nearest access point to the towpath.
