From Gaithersburg, walk to the Gaithersburg Metro Station on the Red Line. Board a train heading towards Glenmont. Ride for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the Judiciary Square station. Once you exit the station, follow the signs to the National Gallery of Art. From there, walk south on 7th Street NW for about 10 minutes, then turn left onto Independence Ave SW. The Japanese Lantern will be on your right.

Take the Ride On Bus Route 55 from Gaithersburg to the Shady Grove Metro Station. Once at Shady Grove, board a Red Line train towards Glenmont. Travel for around 30 minutes and disembark at the Smithsonian station. From the Smithsonian, walk west on Independence Ave SW for about 10 minutes, and you will find the Japanese Lantern on your left.

If you prefer biking, you can use a bike-sharing service available in Gaithersburg. Start by riding south on the Montgomery Village Avenue bike lanes towards the Metro Station. Once you reach the Shady Grove Metro Station, you can park your bike and take the Metro Red Line towards Glenmont. Get off at the Smithsonian station and bike west along Independence Ave SW, where the Japanese Lantern is located.
