Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head south on Carretera Federal 307. Depending on your starting point in Riviera Maya, you may need to navigate through towns such as Playa del Carmen or Tulum. Follow the signs for Akumal. Once you reach Akumal, look for signs indicating Playa Akumal. There is parking available near the beach, but be prepared to pay a small fee (around 50 MXN) for parking.

• Public Transportation (Collectivo)

  For those using public transportation, take a collectivo (shared van) from Playa del Carmen or Tulum. Collectivos frequently run between these towns and Akumal. From Playa del Carmen, you can find collectivos at the corner of Avenida 15 and Calle 12. The fare is typically around 30-50 MXN, and the ride will take about 30 minutes. If departing from Tulum, collectivos leave from the main bus station, and the fare is similar. Inform the driver you are going to Playa Akumal.

• Bus

  If you prefer a more official bus service, you can take an ADO bus from Tulum or Playa del Carmen to Akumal. However, ADO buses may not have a direct route to Akumal. Instead, you may need to get off at a nearby location and take a taxi or collectivo. Check the ADO website for schedules and prices, which vary depending on the time of day but usually range from 50-100 MXN.

• Taxi

  If you are in a location without direct access to collectivos or buses, you can opt for a taxi. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, as taxis do not have meters. A taxi from Playa del Carmen to Playa Akumal might cost around 400-500 MXN, while from Tulum it could be about 200-300 MXN. It's advisable to use a reputable taxi service or ask for a taxi at your hotel.
