If you are staying in downtown Traverse City, start at the intersection of Front Street and Union Street. Head north on Union Street until you reach the end of the street. Continue straight onto Eighth Street, which will take you towards US-31. Once you reach US-31, turn left and walk along the sidewalk heading north. The park will be on your left at 1132 US-31. It's about a 30-minute walk, so wear comfortable shoes.

From downtown Traverse City, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops. Start your ride on Front Street headed east until you reach the Boardman River Trail. Follow the trail north until you reach the intersection with US-31. Turn left and continue biking north on US-31. Keith J. Charters Traverse City State Park will be on your left at 1132 US-31. This route is approximately 15 minutes and is bike-friendly.
