Getting There

  • Walking from Thamel

    If you are starting from Thamel, head west on J.P. Road. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with the Ring Road. Cross the road and follow the signs towards Swayambhunath. After about 30 minutes of walking, you will reach the base of the hill where Swoyambhu Mahachaitya is located. From here, you will need to climb the stairs leading up to the stupa.

  • Walking from Kathmandu Durbar Square

    From Kathmandu Durbar Square, head west towards the Basantapur Durbar Square exit. Take a left onto Bhaktapur Road and continue walking straight. After about 1 km, you will see signs for Swayambhu. Follow the road uphill, and you will soon arrive at the entrance to Swoyambhu Mahachaitya, where you can start your ascent up the stairs.

    You can take a local bus from the Ratna Park bus station in Kathmandu. Look for a bus heading towards Swayambhu. The journey will take around 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic.
