Getting there

Car

If you have access to a car, start your journey in Jomsom, which is the main hub for Upper Mustang. From Jomsom, take the road leading to Kagbeni and continue on to the road that leads directly to Lo Manthang. The drive will take approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on road conditions. Upon reaching Lo Manthang, navigate to the northwest part of the town where you will find a signpost for Thubchen Gompa. It is located just a short walk (around 15 minutes) from the center of Lo Manthang. Follow the path leading to the gompa, and be sure to enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Public Transportation (Jeep)

For those using public transportation, you can catch a local jeep from Jomsom to Lo Manthang. The jeep rides are often shared and can accommodate about 8 to 10 passengers. Make sure to check the schedule at the local jeep station near Jomsom's main square; the ride will take around 3 to 4 hours. Once you arrive in Lo Manthang, walk towards the northern part of the town. Thubchen Gompa is located approximately a 15-minute walk from the main square of Lo Manthang. Look for signs guiding you to the gompa.

If you are already in Lo Manthang and prefer to walk, you can easily reach Thubchen Gompa by heading northwest from the main square. Look for the path that leads out of town; it will take about 15 minutes on foot. The path is relatively straightforward, and you will notice the gompa in the distance as you approach.
