Getting There

• Car

  From Sandia Peak Tramway, head east on Tramway Blvd NE toward the intersection with NM-556. Turn left onto NM-556 and continue for approximately 2.5 miles until you reach the La Luz Trailhead parking area. The trailhead is located at the end of the road, and parking is available on-site. Please note that parking may incur a fee, so have cash or a card ready.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, take the ABQ RIDE bus service. Begin your journey at the nearest bus stop to Sandia Peak Tramway and catch the Route 2 bus toward 'Candelaria & Tramway'. Transfer at the Candelaria stop to Route 66 toward 'San Mateo'. Ride until you reach the stop for NM-556. From there, it will be about a 20-minute walk to the La Luz Trailhead. Ensure to check the bus schedules for accurate timing and potential fare costs.

• Hiking

  If you are already at the Sandia Peak Tramway and prefer to hike, you can start your hike directly from the tramway station. The La Luz Trail is accessible from the upper tram station. Follow the signs leading to the La Luz Trailhead. This hike is approximately 9 miles one way and is quite strenuous, so be prepared with plenty of water and snacks. It's best to start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat.
