Breathtaking Views at Pacific Lookout

Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Kaikoura, head southeast on Beach Road towards the seaside. Continue until you reach the intersection with the State Highway 1. Cross the highway carefully and follow the signs to the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. This pathway will guide you along the coastline with stunning views. After about 1.5 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to the Half Moon Bay Track. Follow the Half Moon Bay Track for approximately 3 kilometers, which will take you through beautiful native bush and offer glimpses of the bay. Keep following the signs, and soon you will arrive at Pacific Lookout, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.

• Cycling

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Kaikoura. Start at the Kaikoura Information Centre and head towards the coast on Beach Road. After about 1 kilometer, turn onto the path leading to the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. Follow this path for 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the Half Moon Bay Track. Cycle along the Half Moon Bay Track for approximately 3 kilometers. The track is well-marked, and you will find several scenic spots to stop and take photos. Eventually, you will arrive at Pacific Lookout, where you can take in the panoramic views.

• Public Transport and Walking

  Take a local bus service that operates between Kaikoura and Okiwi Bay. You can catch the bus from the Kaikoura Bus Terminal located on the main street. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at Okiwi Bay. Once you arrive at Okiwi Bay, look for the trailhead for the Half Moon Bay Track. The track is well signposted. Walk along the Half Moon Bay Track for approximately 3 kilometers to reach Pacific Lookout, where you can enjoy the scenic vistas.
