If you're driving, start from the center of Punakaiki. Head north on State Highway 6 (SH6) for about 5 kilometers. Look for the sign for Irimahuwhero Lookout on the left. Turn onto the gravel road leading to the lookout. The drive takes about 10 minutes. There is no parking fee, and the lookout area is free to access.

Public Transportation
Currently, there are limited public transport options directly to Irimahuwhero Lookout. However, you can take a bus or shuttle service that travels along State Highway 6 towards Westport. Exit the bus at the nearest stop and walk approximately 2 kilometers back along SH6 to reach the gravel road entrance to the lookout. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary.

Walking from Punakaiki
If you enjoy hiking, you can walk from the main area of Punakaiki to Irimahuwhero Lookout. This is a 5-kilometer walk that will take you about 1.5 to 2 hours. Head north on SH6, following the road until you reach the lookout entrance on your left. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the walk can be challenging in places.
