Bus
From Queenstown, head to the Queenstown Bus Station located on Camp Street. Look for the bus service that operates to Arrowtown or Lake Hayes. Purchase a ticket from the ticket counter or directly from the driver. The bus will take you along State Highway 6 towards Arrowtown. Keep an eye out for the Lake Hayes stop; it will be announced on the bus. Once you get off, you should see signs directing you to the lake, which is a short walk from the bus stop.

If you're up for a bike ride, you can rent a bike from one of the many rental shops in Queenstown. Head towards the Frankton Track, which follows Lake Wakatipu. Continue on the track until you reach the intersection with State Highway 6. Turn left onto State Highway 6 and follow the road until you see signs for Lake Hayes. The walk or ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes, and once you reach the lake, there are several walking tracks to explore.

Walking
For those who enjoy a long walk, you can start from Queenstown and head towards the Frankton Track. This scenic route will take you along the lakefront and into the countryside. Follow the trail until you reach State Highway 6. Once you hit the highway, turn right and walk for about 3 kilometers. You will see signage for Lake Hayes. The entire walk can take upwards of 1.5 hours, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated.
