Getting There

  • Bus

    Start at the Taupo Town Centre. Walk to the nearest bus stop on Tongariro Street. Catch the 'Huka Falls' bus operated by the local bus service. The bus runs regularly, so check the schedule at the bus stop or on the local bus service website. Inform the driver you want to get off at the Aratiatia Rapids stop. The ride should take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Aratiatia Rapids stop, follow the signs to the walking track leading to the rapids, which is around a 10-minute walk.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the rental shops in Taupo. Start from Taupo Town Centre and head east on Lake Terrace, which turns into State Highway 1. Follow the bike lane and enjoy the scenic ride along the lake's edge. Continue on State Highway 1 for about 15 km. Look for the sign for Aratiatia Road on your right.
