Getting There

    If you are in the Taupo town center, start at the Taupo i-SITE Visitor Information Centre located at 30 Tongariro Street. From there, head east on Tongariro Street towards the lake. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Lake Terrace. Turn left onto Lake Terrace and follow it as it curves into State Highway 1 (SH1). Keep walking along SH1 for approximately 3 kilometers until you reach the intersection with State Highway 5. At this point, you will see signs for Wairakei and Lava Glass. Cross over to the other side of the highway, and then turn right onto State Highway 5. Continue walking for about 1 kilometer, and you will see Lava Glass on your right at 165 State Highway 5. The journey should take around 45 minutes to an hour depending on your walking speed.
