Bus
To reach Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland from Taupo, start by making your way to the Taupo Bus Terminal located on Ruapehu Street. From there, board a bus heading to Rotorua. The journey will take about an hour. Once you arrive at the Rotorua bus terminal, exit and look for the 'Waiotapu' shuttle service, which operates regularly. This shuttle will take you directly to Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland, which is approximately a 30-minute ride from Rotorua.

If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Taupo to Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland. You can book a taxi by calling a local service or using a rideshare app. The taxi ride will take approximately 50 minutes, and you will be dropped off right at the entrance of the attraction.

Bicycle
For the adventurous, renting a bicycle in Taupo is a great option! Head to one of the local bike rental shops, such as Taupo Cycle Tours, and rent a bike for the day. From Taupo, you will cycle along State Highway 5 towards Rotorua. It’s about a 70 km ride, so plan for several hours. Once you reach Waiotapu Loop Road, turn left and continue cycling until you reach the entrance of Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland.
