Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Rotorua city center, head southeast on Fenton Street. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Old Taupo Road. Turn left onto Old Taupo Road and walk for approximately 1 kilometer until you reach the junction with State Highway 5. Cross the highway carefully and continue onto Te Ngae Road. After about 700 meters, look for a small pathway on your right that leads towards Whakarewarewa. Follow this path for about 1 kilometer, where you will find signage directing you towards Wairua Stream. The stream is located in the Whakarewarewa area, known for its geothermal activity.

    Take the local bus service from Rotorua city center to Whakarewarewa. The bus stop is located on Fenton Street. Board the bus heading towards Te Puia or Whakarewarewa. After about a 15-minute ride, alight at the Whakarewarewa stop. From there, walk towards the Whakarewarewa village, following signs for Wairua Stream, which is approximately a 20-minute walk through the village.
