Getting There

  • Bus

    From Taupo town centre, head to the Taupo Bus Terminal located at 24 Spa Road. Look for the bus service heading towards Rotorua. Board the bus and inform the driver that you want to get off at the Aratiatia Rapids stop. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the stop, you'll need to walk about 1.5 kilometers along Aratiatia Road to reach the Aratiatia Rapids.

  • Walking

    If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk to Aratiatia Rapids from Taupo. Start at the Taupo lakefront and head towards the north along the lakeside path. Continue on the path until you reach the intersection with State Highway 1. Cross over to the other side of the highway, then turn left onto the highway. Continue walking for about 6 kilometers until you see the turnoff to Aratiatia Road. Take a right onto Aratiatia Road and follow it for another 2 kilometers until you arrive at the Aratiatia Rapids. Note that this walk is quite long and may take around 2 hours.

    Rent a bicycle from one of the local bike rental shops in Taupo. Start your ride from the town centre and head towards the lakeside path. Follow the lakeside path north, then navigate towards State Highway 1. Turn left onto the highway and ride for approximately 6 kilometers. After that, take a right onto Aratiatia Road and cycle for about 2 kilometers to reach Aratiatia Rapids. The total ride should take around 30 to 40 minutes, depending on your pace.
