From the visitor centre, continue on the road and look for the Waitonga Falls Track sign. The trailhead is located off the Road to Whakapapa Village. Parking is available near the trailhead, but it is recommended to arrive early as spaces can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. There are no fees for parking.

If you are using public transportation, take a bus service that operates between National Park Village and Whakapapa Village. The bus services can vary, so check the schedules ahead of time. Once you arrive at Whakapapa Village, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers along the road to reach the Waitonga Falls Walk Trailhead. Ensure to wear comfortable walking shoes as the walk is on a gravel path alongside the road.

For those already within Tongariro National Park, you can choose to walk to the Waitonga Falls Walk Trailhead from nearby tracks. If you are near the Whakapapa Village area, follow the signage towards the Waitonga Falls Track, which leads you directly to the trailhead. The walk is about 3 kilometers from Whakapapa Village and takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Make sure to have a map or GPS handy, as some paths can be less defined.
