If you are traveling by car, start from the Whakapapa Village area in Tongariro National Park. Head south on State Highway 47 towards the intersection with State Highway 1. Continue on State Highway 47 for about 11 km, then turn left onto Waihohonu Road. Follow this road for approximately 5.5 km until you reach the Waihohonu Hut car park. From the car park, a short walk will lead you to the hut.

To reach Waihohonu Hut using public transport, take a bus from Taupo to National Park Village (check local bus schedules for current availability).
