If you're traveling by car, start from Hamilton city center. Head north on State Highway 1 (SH1) for about 20 km. Take the exit towards Ngāruawāhia and merge onto State Highway 39 (SH39). Continue on SH39, then turn left onto Waingaro Road. Follow Waingaro Road for approximately 5 km, and you'll find the Hakarimata Rail Trail & Walkway entrance on your left at 223 Waingaro Road, Ngāruawāhia 3793. There is usually free parking available near the trailhead.

For those using public transport, take a bus from Hamilton to Ngāruawāhia. Check the local bus schedules for routes such as the 15 or 16 that service Ngāruawāhia. Once you arrive at the Ngāruawāhia bus stop, you will need to walk about 2.5 km to reach the Hakarimata Rail Trail & Walkway. Head southwest on Great South Road, then turn onto Waingaro Road and continue until you reach the trail entrance at 223 Waingaro Road. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may not run frequently, especially on weekends.
