If you are travelling by car, start from Hamilton, the largest city in the Waikato region. Head southwest on State Highway 1 towards Te Awamutu. After about 20 minutes, take the exit to State Highway 3 towards New Plymouth. Continue on SH3 for approximately 15 minutes until you reach the junction with Pirongia Road. Turn left onto Pirongia Road and follow it for about 10 minutes until you reach the entrance to Pirongia Forest Park. Look for signs indicating Kaniwhaniwha Caves. There is a parking area available for visitors.
